Dangerously Close

The Rymer Gallery (Nashville) | 2019

  • “It’s getting dangerously close to weaving. Weaving is not art, it’s craft, it’s women’s work”

The above critique from an art professor, directed at artist and curator Pam Marlene Taylor, served as the catalyst for this exhibition. This common experience of bias for those working in traditionally feminine mediums or fields bound these nine women artists, all specializing in varying forms of fiber art.

United by this common thread, the artists featured in Dangerously Close came together to celebrate the use of traditionally domestic materials and techniques for their inherent artistry and to connect to those who came before us.

Featuring Natalie Baxter, S. H. Collier, Jana Harper, Vadis Turner, CatieBeth Thomas, Becky Dickovitch, Avery Williamson, Quinn Hunter, and Pam Marlene Taylor.
